Regional Infrastructure
The East of England has a wealth of natural and economic assets, such as excellent domestic and international transport links, vibrant towns and cities and a strong cultural heritage.
EEDA's Regional Infrastructure programme aims to capitalise on the region's assets to make the East of England an exciting, attractive and sustainable place where people and businesses flourish.
The right mix of businesses, facilities, homes and skills create places that are successful and popular over the long-term. This requires carefully considered development and regeneration investment.
Why regional infrastructure is important to the East of England
Some parts of the region have not developed their economic potential as fully as others. Key factors can improve this:
- businesses need good infrastructure to be competitive
- people need a vibrant and attractive environment in which to live and work.
These factors allow a region to prosper. Without them, businesses and people are less likely to be attracted to a place.
EEDA's objective
EEDA's objective is to act as a catalyst for change to enable the region to fulfil its economic potential over the long term. The Regional Infrastructure programme aims to:
- stimulate sustainable place making
- make the most of the region's proximity to the sea and transport links
- ensure those involved have the capacity and skills to deliver better infrastructure.
How will the Regional Infrastructure programme be delivered?
The Regional Infrastructure programme identifies the projects that will have the greatest positive economic impact. EEDA has a strategic and coordination role, identifying priorities and making recommendations.
Local programmes will be delivered by local partners with strong strategic support from EEDA.
EEDA may invest directly into projects that will have significant impact in the economic development of a place.
What will the Regional Infrastructure programme achieve?
The programme will:
- improve the region's infrastructure to maximise economic benefit
- result in high quality environments for people and businesses
- develop the region's skills and capacity
- share best practice.
