Growth in a low carbon economy - EEDA's annual meeting

9 September 2008

Join EEDA at our annual meeting taking place on 9 September 2008 from 4.30pm, with arrivals from 4.00pm, until 7.00pm in Newmarket, Suffolk.

This year, the meeting will focus on 'growth in a low carbon economy'. The Stern Review demonstrated that the effects of climate change will increasingly have an impact on society and how the economy functions. This is particularly relevant for the East of England, as a region particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, but we are perfectly placed to make the most of the economic opportunities that action on climate change presents.

Making the most of these opportunities, a predicted 45 per cent growth in the global environmental technologies sector by 2015 coupled with a large proportion of the UK's environmental goods and services sector being based in the region, could result in the East of England becoming the leader in supplying future demand for low carbon technologies.

Advantages can also be gained outside of the environmental sector. A commitment to reduce carbon in any organisation can lead to savings that will affect the bottom line.

Adnams, based in Southwold is leading by example and putting the environment at the forefront of their agenda. Andy Wood, managing director of Adnams (pictured right) will be joining us at the event to tell us about the steps they are taking to reduce their impact on the environment and demonstrate how success doesn't have to cost the earth.
