OrbisEnergy

OrbisEnergy is EEDA’s Enterprise Hub for Offshore Renewables and is a state of the art incubation centre.

OrbisEnergy was launched on 7 November 2008 with £6.3 million investment from EEDA and £2.7 million from the ERDF Competitiveness Programme, in partnership with Suffolk County Council, Waveney District Council and Renewables East. OrbisEnergy is operated by NWES on behalf of Suffolk County Council.

Designed using cutting-edge environmentally friendly technology, OrbisEnergy is a 3,300 square metre five-floor incubation centre that sits on Britain's most easterly location at Ness Point in Lowestoft and features state-of-the-art offices, conference and exhibition facilities. It has the capacity to house 38 companies involved in offshore renewable energy, supporting both new and existing enterprises within a flourishing commercial network.

OrbisEnergy aims to maximise the supply chain opportunities associated with the rapid development of offshore renewables in the North Sea, which for offshore wind is emerging as the international proving ground for large-scale offshore wind farms. After just ten months OrbisEnergy is already 40 per cent full. Scottish and Southern Energy is an anchor tenant through Greater Gabbard Offshore Winds Ltd.

OrbisEnergy is also a landmark regeneration project for Lowestoft, acting as a catalyst to drive local regeneration.

Eastern Region Wind Energy Group

Eastern Region Wind Energy Group (ERWEG) is a project conceived at Hethel Engineering Centre, which has recently used £10,000 EEDA funding to leverage £90,000 private sector money into the development of a business case for an offshore wind supply chain product. The aim is to produce and manufacture this product within the East of England. The stakeholder group includes major businesses from the Automotive, Aeronautical and Marine sectors, as well as venture capital investment.
