Regional intelligence
Any strategy for economic participation must be based on a thorough understanding of needs. EEDA therefore commissions independent research and works with the Regional Intelligence Centre to develop a clearer picture of economic participation in the region. This includes the collection and analysis of statistics on issues of participation. It also involves identifying new trends and barriers to participation and reviewing the effectiveness of existing services in the region.
The intelligence gathered is used to guide EEDA's policies and funding through regional programmes. It is also shared with local authorities and other partners to provide a framework for directing local investment.
Current research
Migrant workers longitudinal study
The longitudinal study will follow the changing interactions between migrant workers' motivations, perceptions and decision-making processes regarding length of stay and the barriers they face to participation and inclusion. It will provide an opportunity to gain insight into the complex processes and transitions over time and permit a joined-up understanding of the processes of, and barriers to, successful integration in the workplace and community.
