Women's Enterprise Strategy
EEDA recognises the vital contribution that women's enterprise makes to the regional economy and is funding a number of initiatives that will enable more women to set-up and grow a business in the East of England.
“Recent evidence suggests that between 2002 and 2003 the proportion of female owned new businesses in the region had increased from 29 per cent to 38 per cent - that is three per cent above the national average, but this still remains significantly below male owned start-ups and owned businesses. If women started businesses at the same rate as men, we would have 150,000 extra start-ups across the country each year'”
(Rt Hon Jacqui Smith, the then Minister for Women and Equality speaking at the second Prowess conference)
The East of England's Women's Enterprise Strategy demonstrates the commitment of EEDA and its key partners to drive the women's enterprise agenda forward. Our vision is to make the East of England a great place for women to start and grow a business.
The strategy addresses nine key areas which include promotion and awareness, business start-up, business development and growth, finance, networks, skills and personal development.
